Govert Teunisz. Flinck
1615 – 1660
Dutch Baroque painter of portraits, genre, and narrative subjects, one of Rembrandt 's most accomplished followers. His father was strongly opposed to his idea of becoming a painter and secured him an apprenticeship with a silk merchant. According to Houbraken, however, the young Flinck was passionately fond of painting and spent much of his time drawing and sketching instead of attending to his work.
