Pedro Berruguete
1450 – 1504
Among the Spanish painters whose style may be regarded as transitional between Gothic and Renaissance, the foremost is undoubtedly Pedro Berruguete, a native of Parades de Nava in the province of Palencia. His pre-eminence derives from eclecticism and the spirit of humanity that permeate his art. Even during his apprenticeship, Berruguete had to struggle to master a number of divergent influences.
