Eleonora Gonzaga as Diana

Eleonora Gonzaga (1630-1686), was by birth Princess of Mantua of the House of Gonzaga and by marriage Holy Roman Empress, German Queen, Queen consort of Hungary and Bohemia. Eleonora is depicted as the hunting goddess Diana with a greyhound, arrows and bow and a hunting horn in the background. In the lower right corner, in the form of a hunting still-life, there is a doe, a hare, a pheasant, a male bar-tailed godwit and a red-crested pochard.

Frans Luyckx

Frans Luyckx (also spelt Luycx, Lux, Leux) was a Flemish painter. He entered the St Luke painters' society in Antwerp and was an associate of Rubens. In 1635 he went to Italy, and in 1638 he was named painter for Emperor Ferdinand III in Prague. After the death of the emperor, his successor Leopold Wilhelm confirmed Luyckx in his post, and in 1657 he went to the court in Vienna. His early works were mainly historical scenes from the New Testament. Later his most important paintings were the numerous portrait of the members of the royal family.
