The picture shows one of the wings of an altarpiece known as the Lyversberg Passion. The altarpiece constituted the high altar of the Carthusian church of St Barbara, donated by the Cologne merchant Johann Rinck and his son the lawyer Dr Peter Rinck. Thence it came into the Lyversberg collection.

Master Of The Lyversberg Passion

A German painter responsible for a Passion series (now in Cologne), which was at one time thought to be the work of the Master of the Life of Mary. The relationship between the two masters is very close indeed, but is not necessarily that of identity.
