The picture shows a view of the Galleria Grande (now Galleria degli Specchi) in the Palazzo Ducale, Mantua. Its painting is the work of the Bavarian painter Carlo Sandtner. A heaven filled with gods occupy the centre of the ceiling, with banks of clouds creating the illusion of space.

German painter. He was one of the Bavarian painters active in northern Italy. He is recorded in Mantua where he worked in the Palazzo Ducale around 1618.
