Tintoretto's painting depicts Nicol Priuli, nobleman who, after a brilliant political career during which he held several important positions including the membership of the Council of X, was elected prosecutor in 1545. The portrait is considered to be an early work of Jacopo Tintoretto, painted prior to the election of a nobleman for the office of the prosecutor.
