The Hermitage, St. Petersburg

The Gospel account of Christ in Glory on the summit of Mount Tabor is presented here in brief and with certain peculiarities. The whiteness of his clothing is stressed by the dark background in the form of a red six-pointed star with gold rays, inscribed in a circle instead of the traditional almond-shaped mandorla.
