portraitCatherine Parr (1512-48) was the sixth and last wife of King Henry VIII of England (ruled 1509-47). This portrait is her only authentic depiction. She was admired by contemporaries for her eloquence and goodness; she interceded for the victims of Henry's religious persecutions and supervised the upbringing of Edward, Henry's only male heir.
