Marie Geneviève Bouliar

1763 – 1825

French painter. She manifested an early vocation for art. She attended the workshops of Joseph-Benoit Suvée, Jean-Baptiste Greuze and Joseph Duplessis. Her production was intense during the revolutionary period, as evidenced by the catalogues of the Salons from 1791 to 1817. She received the Prix d'Encouragement at the 1795 Salon. Please note that the correct spelling of the artist's surname is "Bouliar" and not "Bouliard," which is the way she is generally listed. The error seems to stem from a critic's misspelling of her name in a review of her first exhibition at the Salon in 1791.
