It depicts a landscape with a farmyard and figure drawing water from a well, other figures conversing nearby. The painter seems to delight in depicting peculiar houses and asymmetrical structures within his idyllic countryside scenes.

Cornelis Gerritsz Decker

1618 – 1678

Dutch painter. He is a relatively little-known Dutch landscape painter who was active in Haarlem. His work is in the manner of Jacob van Ruisdael who was his teacher. He also imitated the style of Jan Wynants and Philips Wouwerman.
