Antonio Diziani

1737 – 1797

Italian painter, the son and pupil of the more famous painter Gaspare Diziani. Antonio was mainly active as a painter of landscapes in and around Venice. In 1774 he was elected a member of the Painting and Sculpture Academy in Venice. His landscapes show the influence of Marco Ricci in both composition and colouring as well as technique; like Ricci he often executed gouaches. A large collection of these works can today be found in the Galleria dell'Accademia in Venice and in the Museo Civico in Padua. Antonio Diziani also collaborated with his father as is evident in the green tonalities of the frescoes in Villa Barbini in Caselle d'Asolo. His last activity is noted in 1797 in Venice.
